Position Overview:
The Sport Instructor reports to the Sport & Leisure Programs Supervisor. This position will be responsible for assisting in the weekly operations of sport & recreation services and programs offered by MacDonald Island Park. The Sport Instructor will be respectful of program participants and will be responsible for making sure that the activities and areas remain clean, safe, and well maintained.
Responsibilities:
• Guide participants in day-to-day activities and create age appropriate activities that promote physical fitness, participation, fun and development
• Provide a safe and secure environment with respect to MacDonald Island Park’s policies and procedures
• Assist with set up, take down and cleaning of Sports equipment or supplies
• Supervise sport and recreation and enforce rules for all guests
• Ensure the provision of nutritious snacks and water breaks when appropriate
• Provide parents and other participants with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and
planned activities
• Provide insight into programming and emergency procedures
• Provide exceptional customer service to all guests at MacDonald Island Park
• Complete additional projects as assigned by the Sport Services Supervisor
Qualifications Required:
Mandatory
• Current Standard First Aid certificate or equivalent (including CPR C)
• Current AED certificate
• Minimum one year experience in instructor setting or sport environment
Desirable
• Experience with working with children of different ages and abilities
• Experience in customer service would be an asset
• Post Secondary Certifications or Courses
Knowledge & Education:
• Formal Certification or training with respect to specific sport or recreational activities would be considered an asset; or equivalent education and experience
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
• Excellent understanding of an athlete’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development
• Strong programming capability
• Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
• Ability to work with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Ability to engage in continuous learning and on the job training
Working Conditions:
• This position requires part time work (0-30 hours per week) and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work.
• This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
• This position will also require a security clearance
