PC Technician/Helpdesk Specialist
Information & Communications Technology Department
Position Type/ Hours: This is a permanent position working thirty-five (35) hours per week.
Position Description:
With independent action, perform first level Helpdesk services by providing one on one technical support via the full service desk system. Provide direct customer technical support to consult, advice, analyse, troubleshoot and solve operation problems. Install test and maintain computer equipment, printers, operating software, network peripheral, mobile data terminals, wireless communications, telephone system and associated applications.
Qualifications:
- Grade twelve (12) diploma supplemented by a relevant technical computing two (2) year diploma from a recognized Community College or Technical Institute.
- Specialized training in computer software, PC operating systems, and office applications such as Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Front Page, and Internet Explorer/Netscape.
- AS400 system training an asset.
- Macintosh computer troubleshooting an asset.
- Two (2) years directly related experience troubleshooting computers and software to include one (1) year directly related helpdesk experience dealing directly with end users.
- Excellent customer service skills to deal effectively with customers, and the ability to maintain a focus on providing customer-computing services is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems hardware and software, ability to learn, understand and apply new developments in servers, workstations, operating systems, communications hardware and software, wireless, mobile data terminals and application software.
- High degree of precision and accuracy in documentation and investigative procedures.
- Creative thinking, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- Must have a valid Class five (5) Alberta Drivers’ License and willing to travel to the Rural Areas which may require overnight stays.
- Must be physically and medically able to perform all of the duties of the job.
- Recognize that technology used by the Municipality continually changes and have the ability to learn, demonstrate and teach new software and hardware processes to users.
- Ability to deal with complex issues, analyze them and provide solutions.
- Must successfully obtain RCMP Security Clearance.
Pay / Classification Level: PL 16
Salary Range:
$36.41 (Probationary Rate)
$39.90 – $42.75 (Permanent Rates)
