Reporting to the General Manager, Strategic Initiatives, the Manager, Rural and Aboriginal Affairs will Support the development of a corporate-wide approach to rural service delivery / rural issues management for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
- The incumbent will focus on building relationships with the Aboriginal (Métis and First Nation) communities / organizations located within and/or adjacent to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo boundaries. The incumbent will also maintain liaison with senior government representatives in efforts to foster a healthy, productive, effective and efficient delivery of shared or co-sponsored services/initiatives.
- The Manager, Rural and Aboriginal Affairs will be responsible for developing, organizing and implementing corporate-wide policies, directives, programs and initiatives that provide a clear focus and direction on the municipality’s commitment, role and relationship with the aboriginal population residing in the rural hamlets and/or residing as neighbors throughout the Rural Service Area.
- The incumbent will also focus on developing initiatives which are aimed at educating, informing and increasing Aboriginal awareness and understanding of the municipality’s operations and responsibilities related to service and program delivery.
- This is a strategic level position with the mandate to ensure that initiatives, solutions and strategies aimed at serving, consulting and collaborating with Métis and First Nation communities and organizations are supported and promoted throughout the entire municipal corporation.
