The Opportunity
Our client is a unique and sustainable Canadian integrated energy company - a leading position in oil sands, with complementary operations in refining and marketing, North American natural gas production and conventional oil production internationally and offshore East Coast Canada.
Based in Calgary and Fort McMurray, the Team leader Contracts will manage the contract management activities for a respective Project area. Reporting to the SCM Contracts Manager, this role will also focus on the ongoing management of contracts and contract compliance in support of the Project Execution Plan.
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct contract negotiations with selected Suppliers/Vendors to tactically provide the required services.
- Assist Contract Administrators in critical and expedited contract requirements, as necessary.
- Ensure that contracts processes comply with all company policies, processes, and procedures.
- Assist in resolution of escalated issues involving contractors.
- Maintain relationships with Contractors and oversee execution of the Projects spend with each contractor.
- Respond to contractor and project inquiries.
- Contract, utilizing contracts created by Category Management, whenever valid for material / service requirements.
- Interface with Category Management to maintain alignment and exchange qualitative information on purchasing and contracting.
- Manage Contracting resources to identify sources of service supply from the company's pre-qualified supplier list.
- Participate in regular meetings with Contracts Team to evaluate business unit requirements, communicate expectations, and evaluate process optimization opportunities.
- Responsible for mentoring, coaching, technical guidance, and training and development of junior Team Members.
- Accountable to ensure that junior team members in the group are properly qualified and trained to perform their work, requesting training as required.
Qualifications:
- A business related degree from a recognized institution and/or recognized Supply Chain Management designation.
- A minimum of 7 years Supply Chain experience or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.
- Experience in the Oil & Gas industry is an asset.
- In-depth specific knowledge of SAP and SAP Business Warehouse (BW)
- General understanding of SCM practices and respective operations.
- Understanding of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
- Understanding of basic procurement process, tariffs, and customs, transportation and distribution issues, buying agreements, legal commitments, payables process, and basic cost considerations involved.
- Effective interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation and communication (both written and oral) skills.
- Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.
- Self starter and the ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
- Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of materials management software/databases.
- Proven pro-active work style and attention to detail.
