The Service Manager is responsible for coordinating and directing all shop and field related work activities while leading and managing the Technical Service Department staff. This individual must bring a very positive attitude with proven management experience. One must be able to motivate, encourage, direct and fully understand the Telecommunications Technicians job processes from start to completion. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent problem solving, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. One must also support the Health & Safety program and ensure all staff adheres to it.
Role and Responsibilities
- Adhere to and enforce the Corporate Health & Safety program and ensure all Technical Services Staff adhere to its rules, policies, processes, practices and procedures
- Assist in the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures
- Review and approve service order input
- Facilitate weekly toolbox talks
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of service shop and bay areas
- Ensure equipment inspections, maintenance, and service is completed (Fleet Vehicles and Company Tools)
- Ensure safety and maintenance deficiencies identified in Safety inspections are corrected in a timely fashion
- Provide front counter assistance to walk-in clients, in the absence of a Service Writer
- Solicit feedback from customers on completion of work to ensure customer satisfaction is maintained at a high level
- Ensure of correct vehicle maintenance procedures to be properly complied to
- Provide semi-annual employee assessments on direct reports
- Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in telecommunications, and adjust service offerings to accommodate them
- Develop effective operating procedures to direct work functions
- Assign tasks and ensure work is accurate and complete
- Encourage collaboration between work teams
- Evaluate subordinates’ work quality, conduct performance appraisals, identify areas needing improvement, and recommend training
- Identify and inform the sales department of opportunities for Tridon Communications to further penetrate the marketplace
Qualifications:
Education
- High School Diploma
- Degree in an Engineering or Commerce discipline a strong asset
- Diploma or Certificate in 2 - 3 year Electronics Engineering Technology/Technician program or suitable combination of education and experience
Experience and Training
- 3 – 5 years of experience as a team leader and supervisor in telecommunications installation and service
- Equivalent on-the-job experience acquired within a related technology service based business
- Knowledge of products and services offered by Tridon Communications
- Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of planning required for program and project development
- Safety standards related to office, shop and store environments
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator’s License or equivalent
- Recent Driver’s Abstract will be required upon condition of employment

- Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and computer databases
- Strong written and verbal communication

- Ability to multi task, lead, and manage technical teams
