The Opportunity
The Health and Safety Instructor (Regulatory) is responsible to plan, develop, and conduct technical training programs for a varied audience designed to promote knowledge of and compliance with environmental, transportation, health and safety requirements, including the preparation and facilitation of training courses both live classroom and on-line and/or other non-traditional delivery methods, such as video conferencing and webinars, and ensuring proper and consistent procedures are being taught to maintain an effective workforce.
There is one position available - Fort McMurray.
Keys areas of responsibility include:
- Write, edit, and teach classes in the following disciplines: TDG, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, H2S, Confined Space Entry, Ground Disturbance, CSTS, Oil Sands Safety Association Training, Company policies and procedures and other topics as necessary.
- Determine the requirements for training programs in environmental, health, safety, transportation, and related fields, for management, supervisory, professional, and technical employees.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Provide internal consulting services to other departments to assist with the design and development of their training programs.
- Conduct "train-the-trainer" classes to promote the use of local, internal employee trainers.
- Research and maintain an on-going knowledge of regulatory compliance rules, and update training programs as appropriate.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure new training needs are identified and the applicable classes are developed and made available to the field.
- Ensure the regulatory content and quality of all training programs are kept current and to the highest standard.
- Facilitate training courses both live and on-line and/or other non-traditional delivery methods, such as video conferencing and webinars.
- Develop testing and evaluation procedures.
Key qualifications include:
- Completion of post secondary education in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health, Safety and/or Environmental Processes and/or the equivalent in education and work related experience.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of professional teaching and/or training experience is preferred; One (1) to three (3) years experience with health & safety and transportation regulations and training will also be considered.
- TDG & WHMIS Certified Trainer Master Instructor Certification (MIC), H2S Alive (Enform) Certified Instructor, Master Instructor Certification (MIC), and NFPA 472 Haz-Mat Technician and Ground Disturbance level II (Global) Certification, preferred.
- Knowledge of health & safety and transportation regulations and training requirements and practices.
- Solid experience in the oil & gas, petro-chemical, and/ or mining industry.
- Ability to hold constructive meetings and teach to a varied audience with a genuine passion for training and learning.
- Travel as required (approximately 25 -40% of the time) domestically and internationally (valid driver's license and passport required).
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and the ability to use media effectively.
