The Position
 
This safety position is responsible for Leading, mentoring, and performing day-to-day Health and Safety Programs are ensure they are properly executed.  These responsibilities include but not limited to health and safety programs; meet or exceed OSHA regulatory compliance, audit operations to ensure consistency with written safety programs, and lead incident investigations as needed. 
 
Responsibilities

  • Lead, guide and mentor employees on P&H MinePro Services and industry specific safety policies and procedures.
  • Work with Management, Safety Specialist and Client safety reps.
  • Monitor compliance with the P&H MinePro Safety Management System, our clients’ safety processes as well as provincially legislated safety regulations.
  • Conduct safety performance reviews and Safety Management System Attests.
  • Perform Safety Orientations or Training. 
  • Communicate to EHS Manager Non-compliance or inefficiencies in the safe work procedures.
  • Coordinate health and safety audits and inspections.
  • Develop and over-see safety and emergency response training.
  • Develop safe work practices and industrial programs
  • Review “root cause” analysis of reported incidents, such as: near misses, personal injury, JSO, or vehicle accidents
  • Respond to injuries and provide first aid and/or patient packaging to medical center for further evaluation.
  • Effectively communicate EHS procedures and policies to all employees and management
  • Review and Audit the EHS program, identify gaps, develop, and implement corrective action.
  • Proficient in using advanced MS Office Software features to effectively execute work tasks. 
  • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours
 
Qualifications
  • College diploma is preferred.
  • Professional certification or training in Occupational Health and Safety, supplemented by certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or a Canadian Registered
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation;
  • Experience in mining, construction or field operations, or maintenance;
  • Three or more years of proven experience in leading and mentoring
  • Excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer competency with Microsoft Office applications is an asset.
  • Ability to work with a team, focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules
  • Demonstrate behavior with P&H MinePro Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Program
  • Capable of adjusting work tasks according to areas that need immediate attention i.e., non-compliance, gaps, and/or audit findings. 
  • Experience in managing inspection requirements with Emergency Response Equipment
  • Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, often under short or changing deadlines, in a diverse and fast paced environment
  • Take after hours phone calls as needed
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact with regulatory agencies and peers with self-confidence, poise, and professionalism
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified, and have knowledge of emergency rescue procedures
