Position Type/ Hours: This is a permanent full-time position working thirty-five (35) hours per week.

Primary Location: Canada-Alberta-Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
 
Role and Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contract terms, fees, etc.
  • Monitor contracts and vendors to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Maintain project dashboard and master PMO project schedule.
  • Review status reports prepared by team members and modify schedules and plans as required.
  • Ensures that the project is delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality standard (within agreed specifications).
  • Providing status reports and/or Presentations to the Branch
  • Manager, Steering Committee, or other Senior Leadership groups as requested.
  • Understand customers’ requirements, address changing needs and manage the dynamics of those changes.
  • Accountable to ensure a smooth go live and subsequent hand-over of the project to business applications support.
  • Provide oversight to ensure projects are in compliance with established standards.
  • Standardize project management processes, tools, documentation, and templates.
  • Maintain project related software tools, software standards, and project methodologies.
  • Resolve conflicts and difficult situations and provide proactive corrective action when necessary.
  • Identify and resolve common problems and potential risk issues across projects.
  • Resolve or escalate issues and eliminate obstacles for the project team through proactive intervention.
  • Resolve issues elevated by project coordinators; establish corrective action plan to be executed by project coordinators.
  • Assess team skills in identifying inherent risks in the methodology on key projects.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical training on efficiently using project management tools.
  • Ensure project coordinators utilize PM tools and techniques.
  • Ensure that all projects complete interim lessons, learned exercises and project implementation reviews.  Integrate findings to the delivery of all projects.
  • Identifies competencies needed for resources and establishes training plans.
  • Maintains a database of project resources, documenting skill sets and experience.
  • Ensures the project is effectively resourced and manages relationships with a wide range of groups (including all project contributors).
  • Responsible for managing the work of consultants, allocating and utilizing resources in an efficient manner and maintaining a co-operative, motivated and successful team.
  • Ensure availability of all necessary staff, services, resources, and vendors and all appropriate project expenditures.
  • Support and enable the entire project team in their effort to achieve the business goals of the project.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Information Technology from a recognized post secondary institute.
  • Certificate in Project Management (PMP) is required.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of responsible experience in managing projects.
  • Supervisory experience.
You will possess the following:
  • Experience leading the design, development, and implementation of software solutions, systems, and projects.
  • Knowledge of business requirements analysis, process improvement, project management, program evaluation and strategic planning concepts and methodologies.
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards etc. and their impact on project activities.
  • Extensive experience in detailed budget preparation and financial tracking are essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence etc.) skills essential.
