The Position
We are seeking a Field HSE Representative for the Fort McMurray region to join our expanding HSE group. Reporting to the HSE Manager, and working primarily in the field, this experienced role is mainly responsible for providing on-site safety program leadership, guidance and development for the project teams in support of HNCC's safety performance system.
Specific Responsibilities And Activities
- Serves as the Project Safety Officer on projects and has the authority to manage HSE and to stop work.
- Daily coordination and administration of the HSE program.
- Design and maintain on-site safety bulletins, safety posters, and company safe rules and regulations.
- Assist in accident investigation, analysis and preparation of incident reports and summaries.
- Prepares descriptions of identified unsafe conditions and the steps to be taken to correct those conditions.
- Ensures that safety inspections reports on the project equipment are completed and correct.
- Ensure that corrective action has been taken whenever deficiencies are identified.
- Help design, give or assist with safety seminars or training.
- Maintain current knowledge of safety literature and safety legislation.
- Liaises with the WHS, and safety associations.
- Acts as an advisor to all levels of project management.
- Maintains project safety statistics and communicates this information to all levels of management and the safety committee.
- Sets an example and follows the safety code of ethics.
The Individual
The person we are seeking to fulfill this key role is an experienced safety professional and is looking to build on this experience by joining a growing organization.
- The candidate possesses a minimum of five years or more in the HSE field coupled with construction safety experience. NSCO designation is required.
- Post-secondary education and working towards a CRSP are also considered assets.
- The candidate must have knowledge of federal, provincial and local HSE regulations.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- As a strong leader and a team player, the individual must have the ability to establish effective internal relationships,
- must be able to think analytically and conceptually,
- must be able to persuade and compel peers to comply with safety requirements,
- must have superior investigative and auditing skills,
- and must have excellent communication skills.
