The Position
A Chef is assigned to a large camp by the Scheduling Services Staff as needed and cooks a wide variety of foods, develops meal plans, inventory and grocery orders, provides direction to kitchen staff, and ensures the highest quality of food and baking possible.
Duties will include meal preparation, supervisory tasks, inventory, administrative tasks, safety and teamwork. The Chef works in a friendly and efficient manner with the client to manage special requests and complaints while ensure the smooth working order of the camp and its staff.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of a Chef include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff in the preparation, cooking and presentation of food,
- Order food and kitchen supplies based on best price and budget
- Check orders received for quantity and quality of product
- Create new recipes to please customers
- Supervise kitchen staff
- Create menus
- Estimate labour and food costs and modify menus to stay within budget
- Check the quality of raw and cooked food products
- Ensure that sanitation standards are maintained
- Assist with staff development and training
- Meet with other managers in the organization
- Promote good public relations.
Qualifications
Work Experience:
- 4+ years food service experience as a 1st Cook preferably in a remote camp environment
Technical Knowledge:
- Food Sanitation Certification,
- WHMIS and First Aid certification preferred
Chefs need the following characteristics:
