Shift Pattern: Days/Evenings/Weekends/On-Call - (This position is transition and successful candidates are expected to apply for regular positions of > .5 FTE as soon as they are determined to be ready to practice independently).
Salary Range:
Minimum: $30.18 per hour (Year 1 Graduate Nurse – Temporary Permit Holder or Graduate Psychiatric Nurse per hour Maximum: $32.99 per hour (Year 1 Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse).
Responsibilities/Duties:
- These are regular full-time positions pursuant to Transitional Graduate Nurse Recruitment Program provisions and are open to those who are or will be new graduates of a Baccalaureate or Diploma of Nursing by the of January 16, 2012.
- Must be eligible for registration (including temporary permit) with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) and/or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) by January 16th, 2012. Current CPR certification at the BCLS level is required.
- The transitional graduate nurse (TGN) shall work under the guidance of a clinical guide (i.e. RN, RPN, Clinical Educator or Clinical Supervisor) as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and/or communities within level of competency.
- The TGN provides input in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, preventing illness, injury and disability or supporting a peaceful death.
- The TGN is accountable to the public for his/her own practice, which is monitored and regulated (Province of Alberta Nursing Profession Act, 1995).
- The TGN is responsible for ensuring that practice meets legislative requirements, the practice standards of CARNA and the code of ethics (Canadian Nurses’ Association Code of Ethics, 2002).
- The TGN is guided by their level of education, expertise, experience, demonstrated skill level, Alberta Health Services and job description and mentored by the clinical guide to support their employment transition and learning opportunities.
These positions are supernumerary in nature until such time as the TGN is determined to be ready to independently assume the full scope of RN or RPN practice. At such time the TGN will be required to apply for available vacancy positions of no less than .5 FTE and may work as relief.
Qualifications:
- Current CARNA/CRPNA registration (including temporary permits);
- BCLS-HCP certification required;
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required;
- Valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle;
- Acceptable drivers abstract;
- Proof of business insurance;
- Demonstrated computer proficiency.
