Position Type/ Hours: This is a permanent full-time position working thirty-five (35) hours per week.
Primary Location: Canada-Alberta-Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
 
Role and Responsibilities

  • Developing strong and meaningful relationships within each community.
  • Participating and supporting community and Aboriginal organizations that benefit the various hamlets and Aboriginal communities.
  • Developing and implementing Rural and Aboriginal engagement policies and strategies.
  • Coordinating the Municipality’s engagement and communication processes with specific communities and stakeholders.
  • Maintaining a formal system of recording and monitoring stakeholder and Municipal commitments.
  • Working with rural staff to develop appropriate policies, to address current and emerging community issues and to build awareness  within the Municipality of the unique relationship and civic responsibility to rural residents.
  • Developing and implementing Rural and Aboriginal engagement policies and strategies.
  • Providing advice and guidance on ways to enhance the Municipality’s service provision and communication with Rural and Aboriginal communities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Native Studies, Community Development,
  • Social Work, Education or Aboriginal Law along with five (5) years working with, or in, Aboriginal communities.
  • Proven communication, interpersonal, organization, research, writing, problem solving and decision making competencies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture issues, communities and protocols is essential.
  • Sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality of material and information.
