About this opportunity:
We’re looking for a highly motivated Area Lead for our Foster Creek Asset. Reporting to the Senior Coordinator of Ready for Operations (RFO), your primary focus will be the safe startup of the Process, Deoiling & Tankage assets within the Phase F Production Train currently under construction at Foster Creek.
The Area Lead will work a shift of 4 days on 3 days off, 10 hours per day and will transition to a shift position, 12 hours per day, 7 days on 7 days off rotating days and nights in late 2013 during commissioning and startup. Relocation to the Cold Lake/Bonnyville area is preferred, however camp is an option. Relocation assistance will be provided.
Our Foster Creek facility is located approximately 90 minutes north of Bonnyville/ Cold Lake, Alberta area. Your primary responsibility will be to effectively participate as a team member in the operation of our Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) facilities. Our Foster Creek Team is seeking energetic and qualified individuals to support our long term safety, environmental and production goals.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in a leadership role, to ensure that all pre-startup deliverables are available to the operations staff prior to commissioning. These deliverables will include but not be limited to; Commissioning Procedures, Operations Procedures, Safe Work / LOTO Standards, system asset identification, Punch listing, system identification and walk downs
- Ensure that Construction Work Package Turnovers to the RFO Team meets both regulatory and Cenovus standards
- Assist in Commission new plant facilities
- Assist in the management of all shift team personnel in relation to shift coverage, vacation scheduling and bussing Cross train the Unit Operators on the crew with Operations Lead approval and ensure record keeping of the crew members experience, training & time
- Ensure unit operators have survival skills to operate unit alone by testing individuals using area training checklist
- Assist with monthly shift team safety meetings
- Ensure all chemical operational needs are tended to
- Ensure all work activities are completed by shift personnel and performed safely by competently trained technicians
- Conduct FC SAGD “walk-abouts”, with specific intent to make observation in regards to personnel and contractor safety compliance (+/-)
- Participate in formal safety, LOTO and HSE audits
- Ensure all operational areas are maintained to a very high housekeeping standard, areas are clean and free of obstructions and debris and well illuminated
- Must know and understand the Waste Management System for the Foster Creek SAGD
- Must be aware of plant licenses and be able to contact our regulators in the event of license exceedance
- Support training and development of shift team by helping direct and provide the required technical and process based training according to the training checklist and org chart
- Ensure Production and Government reporting is adhered to
- Continuously monitor and optimize process streams
- Effectively communicate to support teams with a high level of competency (Maintenance, DCS, peration Leads and Production Coordinators)
- Ensure and promote effective troubleshooting
- Ensure maintenance work activities are prioritized and acted on accordingly
- Ensure operations prepare all equipment in a ZERO energy state for maintenance as determined by schedules
- Provide supervision through safe work agreements for critical jobs, hot taps, ground disturbance, vessel entry and critical hot work
Qualifications:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency with process toward a 2nd Class Certificate, (2nd Class certificate of Competency is preferred)
- 5 years SAGD Thermal Heavy Oil experience with 7-9 years total relevant industry experience
- This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to the relevant requirements of Cenovus’s Alcohol and Drug Policy which includes pre-assignment testing

- Excellent trouble shooting skills and the ability to lead the shift technicians through trouble shooting activities to enhance their skill and ability
- Demonstrated leadership & competency in work practices, policies & procedure
