The Position
This position will support MEG Energy’s Christina Lake Regional Project in the areas of environmental compliance, environmental management, emergency preparedness and response relating to construction, drilling and reclamation activities associated with the at Christina Lake. The position also provides required coordination with MEG’s field activities including operations, seismic, and reclamation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementation and maintenance of MEG’s Environmental Management System (EMS) at the Christina Lake Project
- Coordination of regulatory compliance and compliance inspection to support EMS
- Development of risk/aspect reviews, regulatory interpretation and guidance and training on issues such as:
- Spills
- Construction, drilling and reclamation requirements
- Oilfield waste management
- Water management
- Erosion/sedimentation
- Wildlife Management
- Development and implementation of environmental guidelines to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Field coordination and management of environmental assessments, including pre-disturbance and post reclamation assessments and related reporting and submissions
- Support for approvals and permits related to SAGD construction, drilling and reclamation including ensuring implementation of approval conditions
- Liaison/interface with regulators including onsite coordination and follow up reporting with AENV, ASRD and ERCB regarding environmental incidents, permitting, compliance and field authorizations
- OSE reclamation program implementation and coordination of field activities
- Provide a lead role in management of MEG’s Waste Management Strategies
- Support MEG’s Ground Disturbance ProgramProvide support for onsite emergency response activities
- Assist in coordination of environmental contractors (field logistics, orientation and management)
- Assist in managing incident and non-conformance reviews, inspections, investigations and audits in support of MEG’s commitment to continuous improvement
Skills and Knowledge:
- Preference to diploma or degree in environmental sciences or related field with formal environmental management education
- Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental management
- Emergency response/spill response training or other emergency management qualifications an asset
- Familiarity with relevant ERCB, ASRD and AENV regulations, requirements and directives
- Applicable health and safety training (e.g H2S Alive, WHIMIS & TDG)
