INSTRUCTOR
FORT CHIPEWYAN ACADEMIC UPGRADING PROGRAM
 
The Fort Chipewyan Campus requires an instructor in the Academic Upgrading Program.  This is a permanent, full-time position commencing August 18, 2008.
 
Reporting to the Fort Chipewyan Chairperson, the primary teaching duties of the successful candidate will be instruction of math and science curricula for adult students in academic upgrading.  However, the successful candidate may also be required to teach other courses at the junior or high school level such as Intro to Computers or employability skills. Other duties include curricula development, preparation for instruction, student consultation and advisement, evaluation of students and student recruitment.
 
Standard duties expected of faculty include: maintaining scheduled office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on campus committees, work with students on campus projects, and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor Degree is required.  Experience teaching language arts, employability skills, and social studies to adults are a major asset.  The successful candidate must be innovative and have an adult-oriented approach to instructing.  Proficient use of computers and an aptitude for using multimedia in the classroom would be definite assets.  An appreciation and understanding of issues facing adult, aboriginal students returning to school is essential. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. A good understanding of the issues faced by and strategies to work with multi-barriered or disabled adults is also an asset.
 
SALARY:  Based on education and experience.
