Reporting to the Team Leader and collaborating on a file by file basis with Child Protection Caseworkers, your primary role will involve supporting families and children through early intervention, instruction and parenting assistance. This will involve assessments and providing a range of intervention approaches and techniques including "clinical" to address the needs of the families and children. Your clients are families typically falling under the mandated service provisions of the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
 
You will also serve as a link between the child and the family to address issues impacting the family's ability to provide care to the child. Your past experience and formal education will allow you to apply theoretical and experiential knowledge and skills of family dynamics, systems, parenting techniques, intervention techniques, behavior management, and child development. Further skills and knowledge in the areas of family violence, addictions, neglect and abuse will contribute to your success in these in-home support positions. You will provide instruction and assistance to parents to learn behavior management skills, assertiveness and general parenting skills as well as facilitate involvement with appropriate community resources.

If you are the successful candidate and you are either new to the Government of Alberta, or relocating to Fort McMurray for this position, you would be eligible for a very attractive Northern Allowance Bonus! Since this is a permanent salaried position the attraction bonus would be a one-time payment equivalent to 25% of your base pay upon commencement, less all lawful deductions. The bonus would be paid on a quarterly basis over the first year of employment and would require a two-year return service commitment. On top of that, you would also receive $1,040/month for the Fort McMurray Allowance.
 
Qualifications: University degree in a related field and two years of related experience or diploma and three years of related experience. Working knowledge and experience of the Aboriginal Culture and the Regions community based resources would be an asset. Quality computer skills are required.
 
Successful applicants who possess a BSW, MSW or Diploma in Social Work will be required to maintain registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
