LOCATION: Fort Hills, Wood Buffalo, Alberta (CA-AB)


Working on our Fort Hills mining project, you will oversee, lead and advise the field operations from a contractor management perspective of the heavy civil overburden, civil and reclamation contract workforce. You will also advise the contractors and Fort Hills management regarding potential factors which may constrain or improve daily production or the project schedule so that operations are executed in a safe, reliable and cost effective manner. 


  • Participate in front-end document reviews such as engineering packages, project scopes and bid package evaluations
  • Participate in contract kick-off meetings and support the onboarding of contractors
  • Review and approve contractor documents, manuals and procedures in concert with Fort Hills Operation (FHO) mining management and contract administrators
  • Participate in contractor progress update meetings
  • Conduct daily worksite inspections
  • Compile and collate information to support stewardship reporting
  • Monitor the contractor schedule, hours, costs and progress quantities in partnership with FHO mine planning and finance representatives
  • Provide support and site communication for project start-up activities
  • Verify contractor turnover submissions through ongoing monitoring of the progressive development of contractor scope progress in partnership with mine technical
  • Ensure application of Suncor’s Incident Management Standard


  • Three or more years of experience in a mining operations or mining projects/construction coordinator role
  • A trade certificate, diploma or degree in Civil Mining Engineering, a relevant technical field or equivalent operational experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel and Outlook; SAP is preferred
  • Proven ability to maintain professional relationships with contractors and vendors
  • Strong collaboration skills, working with various stakeholders
  • Knowledge of work permitting and lockout procedures
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities, multitask and deliver on aggressive timelines in a fast-paced environment
