Job Description

Assembles, installs, and repairs, and maintains telecommunications structured cabling systems, fiber optic backbone and campus cabling, cabling for wireless access points. Structured cabling will consist of cabling for commercial buildings, industrial applications and temporary facilities. Fiber optic installation and maintenance includes but is not limited to installation of cable inside buildings and in an outside plant environment. Installing field connectors, splicing cables using a fusion splicer, and testing utilizing OTDR and Power Meters.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret and maintain drawings and specifications.
  • Install structured cable components. (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Fiber Optic)
  • Installation and testing of communication circuits via available communications cabling network.
  • Service, maintenance and trouble shooting on commercial and/or industrial communication circuits and/or cabling networks.
  • Repair, replace faulty components if necessary
  • Repair and adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
  • Able to read and interpret telecommunication drawings and specifications.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned apprentices and new workers.
  • Represent the company face to face with the customer directly requesting the work when needed.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

 

Education and Experience

    • High School degree, diploma, or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college.
    • A current Alberta driver's license with good driving record.
    • Post Secondary education is an asset. Communication Electrician apprentice program or other training is an asset.
    • TE Connectivity certification training is an asset.
    • Commscope Systimax certification training is an asset.
    • Belden certification training is an asset.
    • Corning certification training is an asset.
    • Knowledge and skill of tools, equipment, and materials and practices of the trade.
    • Knowledge of applicable telecommunication codes, standards, and regulations.
    • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
    • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
