School Bus Monitor –Education Department  011-2017

General Description:

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is seeking a motivated and multitask-oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill the part-time temporary position of School Bus Monitor, reporting directly to the Fort McKay Education Support Coordinator.The School Bus Monitor will be responsible for ensuring the children board the bus on and off safely. The School Bus Monitor is/ are also required to attend Bus Planning meetings and share ideas to improve service for the children. Hours of work and schedule are Monday to Friday mornings 6:00am to 8:30am and afternoon from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, based on program needs and schools schedules. This position is for the remainder of the 2017 school year.


  • Maintain discipline on school bus and assist students while bus is in operation. 
  • Establish good working relationships with the children, parents, bus driver and other staff 
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing as well as follow written and oral instructions 
  • Audit the passenger list and make sure all students are on board
  • Assist children in getting on the bus and to assigned seats 
  • Ensure all passengers are properly seated while the bus is in motion 
  • Complete the bus Visual Inspection Form at the end of each route 
  • Remove trash and litter from bus daily
  • Prepare a daily trip report for the Education Support Coordinator
  • Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
  • Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset

Note: Depending on travel requirements, a valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract may be required.
