Job Description

Responsibilities:

  1. As a member of the health care team, the Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct nursing care as delegated by authorized personnel.
  2. The Licensed Practical Nurse will liaise with Directors, Managers, Head Nurses, Senior Nurse, Physicians and other health care professionals; Family members and Community agencies as required.
  3. Provide direct nursing care as delegated and within the regulations and guidelines of the C.L.P.N.A.
  4. Provides practical care including the promotion of wellness, prevention of illness, and to maintain and restore health and social well-being.
  5. Is aware of and complies with the scope of practice, regulations and guidelines as set forth by their registering body.
  6. Where acuity/complexity of patient/client requires, or as directed, confer with other professionals accountable for clinical leadership.
  7. Participates in case conferences, nursing care and discharge planning.
  8. Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Current BCLS-HCP certification issued within a year required.
  • Experience preferred in an acute care, home care, continuing care or preventative health setting, dependent on assignment.
  • Proven written/oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer knowledge required.
  • Required to work both independently and as a team member in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • This position requires a vehicle for business use.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.

  • All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Alberta regulatory college, prior to commencing duties with AHS where applicable: Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to provide an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties with AHS. Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.
