Open Position/Description
 
Community Services Department
This is a permanent, full-time position working forty (40) hours per week.
 
Under frequent supervision, assist Urban Forest Technicians in all required ground duties of urban forest operations and maintenance. Perform tasks to assist with prepping and monitoring the work site for safety precautions as related to urban forest operations and maintenance.
 
Qualifications:
 

  • Grade twelve (12) education or GED.
  • Diploma or degree in Arboriculture or Forestry related field would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum one (1) year related experience in urban forest operations, arboricultural maintenance or technical forestry related duties.
  • ENFORM Chainsaw certification or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid/CPR, Fuel and Lube, Flag person, Skid Steer, and Forklift certifications are assets.
  • Class five (5) driver’s license with Q-endorsement.
  • Class three (3) driver’s license is an asset.
  • WHMIS training.
  • Computer knowledge skills (word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail).
  • Must be medically and physically fit.
  • Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and in an unsanitary environment.
  • Knowledge of appropriate use of Personal Protective clothing and accessories.
  • Ability to learn how to operate equipment such as brush saws and whips, utility vehicles, tractors, Bobcats, implements, chainsaws, chipper, stump grinder, and other equipment as required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Simple record keeping ability.
  • Pass criminal record check.
 
  • Salary $27.03 (Probationary rate) 
  • $29.56 - $31.56 (Permanent rates)
