Job Description


  • The Clinical Support Services Manager is a professional position reporting to the Senior Operating Director, Area 10.
  • Works with a high degree of independence and in concert with the Senior Operating Director and Operational
  • Director and Managers to plan and implement programs and processes.
  • Develops and manages various initiatives and/or programs and provides ongoing client support between individuals, departments, and programs.
  • The position will provide leadership to the Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Supply Coordinators, Staffing Office, and Utilization Management staff in the development of a strategy for the coordination and delivery of educational tools/resources, clinical supplies systems and management, staffing availability and assignments, and utilization management, and leads the implementation of assigned projects and programs.
  • This position provides advice and direction to clients within its specialty function and scope.
  • The Clinical Support Services Manager contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental policies, procedures, priorities and standards.  This position assists Department Leaders in strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives in support of the NLRHC.
  • Maintains oversight of special supplies inventory, ensures the provision of related to products and services to all clinical units.
  • Oversees operation and evaluation of bed utilization management processes to support appropriate access, patient flow, utilization of acute services and capacity management within NLRHC.
  • Accountable for utilizing tools and processes to effectively manage capacity, patient access and flow through the acute care continuum and to be solution focused within a team environment to resolve patient barriers and capacity challenges.
  • Proactively manages the transitions across the continuum by identifying and considering discharge needs from the time of a client’s admission.
  • Manages the provision, direction, support and coordination of activities to relevant units after hours.
  • Oversees after hour management of facility resources including liaison between units and agencies to promote and ensure delivery of quality care.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to the Staffing Department in the development of a strategy for the coordination and delivery of appropriate staffing resources throughout the various departments and programs throughout the facility.
  • To act as the Corporate Officer for legal claims.
  • Leading efforts across the health care organization for assigned AHS projects.


  • A minimum of a Bachelor in Nursing degree or health related area is required.
    Active registration with CARNA or another regulatory licensing body.
  • A minimum of 5 years in acute care in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity (healthcare experience an asset).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management role ideally of significant size, complexity and diversity (healthcare experience an asset).
  • A Master of in Nursing degree or health related area is preferred.
  • Progressive leadership experience in a health care environment, including experience in a management role in clinical operations.
  • Facilitation and/or coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience managing human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment.
  • A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications.

  • All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Alberta regulatory college, prior to commencing duties with AHS where applicable: Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to provide an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties with AHS. Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.

Additional Information:

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
