Job Description

Under minimal supervision, leads most aspects for the development of strategic community partnerships that enable citizens and user groups to develop community programs, projects, and events, to deal with issues, operate facilities, and establish systems and empower them to take ownership.

Responsibilities:

  • Researches and designs special events/programs/projects to encourage active participation in arts/culture, and recreation/sport related activities that enhance quality of life.
  • Leads relationships with agencies and groups and remains primary contact for program development and support.
  • Analyse resources and goals for community programming with user groups and provide solutions and recommendations.
  • Facilitates workshops, provides technical advice and guidance, and assists not-for-profit agencies and other local organizations to achieve their plans and ongoing community development.
  • Develops and/or evaluates plans/reports and strategies to ensure community needs are met to optimize service levels and encourage community pride and ownership.
  • Leads community engagements in alignment with other internal departments and as required for arts/culture, sport/recreation/beautification related projects.
  • Plans and develops advertisement and promotional campaigns for programs and events relative to these programs.
  • Researches and accesses grants; and canvasses for donations, gifts-in-kind, and corporate sponsorship for cost containment.
  • Provides administrative functions including preparation of council reports, administrative briefing notes, business planning, policies and budgets.
  • Manages events and programs as required in areas where pre-identified community gaps exist and coordinates a variety of volunteer related programs and services.
  • Coordinates all internal resources on behalf of community organizations hosting events and activities in the region.
  • Assists in the creation of, and responsible for, the management of various agreements, contracts and leases.
  • Assesses programs and projects to ensure that municipal work place safety policies and procedures are in place and are followed.
  • Ensure the use of community development principles in project implementation. 

Requirements:

  • Degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business, or Community Development combined with four (4) years of related experience in community and recreation facility operations;
  • OR
  • Diploma in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business, or Community Development combined with six (6) years of related experience in community and recreation facility operations.
  • Project Management courses and certifications are assets. 
  • You will possess the following:
  • Proven planning, programming, leadership and/or team leading skills
  • High degree of interpersonal, communication, and group process skills.
  • Sound project and time management skills to effectively and efficiently manage multiple project/events/programs.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR-C certifications.
  • Able to provide a criminal record check for review and acceptance.
  • Valid Class Five (5) driver’s licence is required.
  • Ability to work independently and in all weather conditions is required.
  • Flexibility to perform duties after regular hours, on weekends, and on holidays, as required in meeting community needs. 

Additional Information:

  2. $48.34 (Temporary Rate)
  3. An additional bi-weekly payment of $480 which represents a cost of living allowance
