Job Description

Reporting to the VP-GM of the Northwest Area, the General Manager – Aggregates will execute business strategy, business plan, and provide leadership while maximizing profitability and optimization of all organizational resources within the designated market area.

  • Areas of responsibility include safety, sales, marketing, operations, materials performance, land management, and environment. Proactively engages the support of the functional leaders and others to secure the long-term growth vision for the market area. Ensures that all products and services that touch the customer meet Lafarge’s world class standards and are provided in the most efficient “easy and hassle free” manner. Upholds all company commitments, policies and standards and executes a culture that holds health & safety as a value.

Responsibilities:

Safety

  • Leads the business with the utmost focus on health & safety.
  • Proactively implements Lafarge best practices, engages with all levels of employees in this regard and ensures personnel are actively seeking out real time solutions to identified risks.
  • Provides visible and felt health & safety leadership.

 Business Plans & Strategy

  • Works in concert with business unit resources to identify strategic economic strengths, trends, weaknesses, opportunities and threats within market area and strategically positions it in a favorable posture in accordance with business plan.

 Business Performance

  • Drives for continuous business performance improvement while never compromising Lafarge’s commitment to providing “easy and hassle free” service to the customer.

Solution Selling

  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with other Product Lines and same product line counter parts ensuring a synergy which achieves a strategic and competitive edge for Lafarge.

Profitability

  • Improves margins through the right combination of product, services, strategic placement and cost reduction.

 Asset Optimization

  • Ensures optimal utilization of assets.

Materials Performance

  • Oversees QA/QC staff and function ensuring implementation of Lafarge and industry best practices designed to provide the best quality product to our customers.

 Maintenance

  • Oversees maintenance operations balancing equipment uptime and cost.
  • Ensures that this department is aligned with operating management and appropriate forecasting and planning of activities is completed.

 HR/Coaching & Mentoring

  • Works closely with management and staff to develop a professional approach to managing the business. Conducts professional monthly meetings with clear agenda and priorities.
  • Communicates company initiatives and pursues best practices. Identifies underperformance and establishes corrective action.
  • Recognizes and celebrates successes. Develops and motivates staff. Selects, hires, trains and terminates as required.

 Sales & Marketing

  • Continuously liaises with sales personnel and addresses customer needs by developing and implementing timely business solutions.

 Industry Representation

  • Represents his/her respective market in industry and community organizations.

Qualifications:

Education: 

  • Undergraduate degree in construction management, engineering, mining, geology, or business
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
