Job Description

Responsibilities:

  1. Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health, and under the supervision of an Area Supervisor, this Social Worker II position focuses on providing mobile and hospital based crisis services as part of the continuum of crisis and emergency addiction and mental health services in Fort McMurray.
  2. This position functions as part of an interdisciplinary team completing mental status exams, risk assessments, biopsychosocial assessments to residents of Fort McMurray who self-identify with a mental health or psychiatric crisis or who are referred by a family or community member or a health care provider.
  3. Services are delivered in the community and/or at the hospital.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Social Work.
  • Active registration in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • Non Violent Crisis intervention.
  • Suicide intervention and safety planning.
  • 2-3 years direct experience in crisis intervention with persons experiencing a mental health or psychiatric crisis, psychosocial assessment, discharge planning, and case management with addiction and mental health populations.
  • Demonstrated experience with psychiatric disorders, mental status exams and addictions.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural groups and vulnerable populations.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation that may include Mental Health Act, Health Information Act, and keep current with appropriate discipline related literature.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to initiate work both independently and as a team member, and make sound professional decisions in a complex multidisciplinary environment.
  • Working knowledge of computers and clinical documentation processes an asset.
  • This position requires a vehicle for business use.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.

  • All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Alberta regulatory college, prior to commencing duties with AHS where applicable: Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to provide an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties with AHS. Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.

Additional Information:

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
