An exciting opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse looking to work to their full-scope of practice and whom has a passion for providing patient- and family-centered care at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, located in the energetic and vibrant community of Fort McMurray.


  • As our Registered Nurse, you will be working in a float position between our Pediatrics and Obstetrics departments, working within a multidisciplinary team, utilizing our values (AHS Cares) and Patient First Strategy in your practice to provide leading care to Albertans.
  • Our Pediatric department has 8 beds with 4 overflow, serving a general population of 16 years and under.
  • Our Obstetrics department contains 11 beds with an antenatal clinic operating adjacent to the unit. Our unit is very active with an average of 120 or more births a month!
  • As our Registered Nurse, you will be providing leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation across a continuum of care, with the purpose of providing safe, quality care for patients and their families while reflecting the shared vision of Alberta Health Services.
  • You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Alberta Health Services policies and procedures.
  • Through your education, experience, knowledge of current principles, techniques and procedures, and interpretation of evidence based healthcare practices and processes, you will play a key role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to the patient’s care, health promotion and health maintenance.

  • Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
  • Graduation from a recognized nursing education program
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • Two (2) years of experience in pediatrics and/or obstetrics
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Current Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
  • Current Obstetrical Nursing Education (i.e. MoreOB)
  • Current Fetal Health Surveillance Course
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrated accountability for own practice.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with conflict resolution ability.
  • Demonstrated evidence of accountability, integrity, initiative, and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated strong decision making/problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as both a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality.
  • This position has on-call/call back as required.
  • The Registered Nurse position requires physical demands include lifting, pulling and pushing, walking, standing, transferring and transporting clients and equipment up to a frequent basis

  • All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Alberta regulatory college, prior to commencing duties with AHS where applicable:Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to provide an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties with AHS. Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.
