Job Description


  • The Information Technology (IT) Department is looking for an enthusiastic team member to provide desktop support to Alberta Health Services facilities in Northern Alberta. T
  • he Deskside Analyst will assist users with computer, software, and network problems or questions.
  • Assistance is usually provided over the phone, but can involve field troubleshooting, training assistance, or other support.
  • Depending on the assignment, this position provides support for software, local area network (LAN) connections, telecommunications, computer hardware (such as PC's, printers and any other peripheral devices), and commercial software packages (such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail, and calendaring applications). Incumbents use a variety of online monitoring and diagnostic software tools, reference manuals, vendors and on-the-job experience to solve problems and provide "how-to" instructions.
  • Work is performed with minimal supervision and performance is evaluated based on observation and results achieved.
  • All Non-Union/Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly.


  • A post-secondary education in an Information Technology related discipline.
  • Three or more years of experience providing on site computer support in a diverse team environment.
  • Experience includes implementation, operation, repair and maintenance of computer equipment, applications, and peripherals.
  • IT industry certification(s); i.e. ITIL Foundations certification and Health Care experience are highly desirable.
  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The ability to lift 22 Kg (50 lbs.).
  • Valid class 5 driver license as travel is required.
  • Establish priorities, schedule work and assign resources effectively.
  • Analyze concerns or problems arising from daily operations.
  • Assess the effectiveness of programs on the basis of quantifiable outcomes.
  • Promote quality improvement strategies and methodologies to staff.

  • Meet established, defined, or tight time lines.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Remain current in IT field.
  • Travel to areas throughout Northern Alberta.
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality.
  • The selected candidate will be required to participate in an after hours on-call rotation.

  • All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Alberta regulatory college, prior to commencing duties with AHS where applicable: Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to provide an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties with AHS. Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation. 

Additional Information:

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
