Position Summary 
The General Manager, Fort McMurray Operations is responsible for the oversite, planning and organization of activities related to the maintenance scope of work at our client’s sites. This position participates in the formulation of regional maintenance policies; Formulates and directs implementation of maintenance policies and programs for client sites; Ensures the overall administration and technical directions, coordination, and direct line responsibilities both in the field the home office in a managerial capacity. The General Manager is responsible for the successful completion of all maintenance and home office support activities including Safety Performance, Financial Performance and Project Execution for projects and groups within assigned portfolio.
  • Responsible for the overall planning and organization of the total maintenance effort to include such areas as:
  • Overall plan and layout
  • Organization
  • Standard and special field operating procedures
  • Business plans and strategy development
  • Coordinates with the client, project management and project services in setting up required reporting procedures and formats for client and Jacobs’ management needs.
  • Reviews construction cost, estimates, budgets, forecasts and schedules.  Also reviews certain specifications and drawings for economic constructability.
  • Participates in the resolution of major problems such as labor disputes, workforce staffing, material delivery and contract/subcontract administration.
  • Coordinates with the project managers, design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling and other personnel in setting and maintaining priorities to ensure timely performance sufficient to keep the overall project on schedule and within budget.
  • Directs the Site management teams in the overall maintenance efforts.
  • Provides counseling and guidance to Site Teams.
  • Participates in the review and/or development of functional operations and controls
  • Reviews and approves preliminary estimate and maintenance schedules as required
  • Participates in the engineering and operations review meetings
  • Management review meetings where approvals of tentative schedules and budgets are made.
  • Participates In proposal preparation, project planning and scheduling by furnishing expertise on maintenance methods and equipment, labor productivity guidelines, and estimates of distributable expenses and labor wage rates.
  • Leads and coordinates operational RFP responses and supports operational sales efforts.
  • Interacts with both client management and senior Jacobs management.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in maintenance activities
  • Able to legally travel outside of Canada.
  • Thorough knowledge of all field engineering disciplines, all maintenance technologies, turnaround processes, and project management.
  • A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline OR
  • Specialized courses In construction management AND/OR
  • Extensive actual work experience leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
