Job Description

Under general supervision the Psychosocial Coordinator is responsible for investigating, analyzing and responding to social needs and the psychosocial wellbeing of the residents of the Wood Buffalo community.


  • Leads research, social analysis, and development of department initiatives, plans, strategies, and programs related to psychosocial wellbeing and framework.
  • Develops and maintains effective citizen involvement in psychosocial planning and delivery.
  • Designs and implements evaluation systems for internal and external municipality-funded programs and initiatives.
  • Tracks externally funded programs and initiatives that are available to the public.
  • Develops and reviews all relevant programs and implementation strategies and cumulative program impacts
  • Responds to enquiries, assists with service delivery, and maintains best practices. 
  • Monitors reporting outcomes of psychosocial framework and initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


  • A degree in Social Services, Psychology, Sociology or another related field is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a social services, planning, or programming with direct experience in psychosocial wellbeing.
  • Experience should include a significant amount of data analysis and social research.
  • Proven background conducting research and understanding of social planning theories and models. 
  • Knowledge of all facets of strategic planning, evaluations and analysis; including reporting on metrics and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and populations across the Municipality.
  • Proven ability to be discreet, keep all information and documentation strictly confidential, respectfully and sensitively resolve issues.
  • Strong planning, organizational, problem-solving, influence, and community engagement skills.
  • Must demonstrate superior leadership, initiative, flexibility and political sensitivity abilities.
  • Availability to work and attend meetings outside of regular working hours (evenings or weekends), as required.
  • Valid Alberta Class Five (5) driver’s licence is required (clear driving abstract is an asset).
  • Willing and able to provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector for review and acceptance.
