Terms of Employment: This position is full-time with shift work hours, 11.5 hours per day, 14x7 rotation (could change), OT after 10 hours per day, OT after 44 hours per week, project position for 2 years

Start Date: November 6, 2017


  • Primary duty to operate Hitachi 5500 Hydraulic Shovel
  • Operate Excavators up to 1900 Series
  • Operate Dozers up to D11
  • Load 797’s
  • Safely load good side and Blind Side
  • Comply with safety regulations
  • Complete daily paperwork
  • Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment
  • Operate heavy equipment 


  • Must have two to three years’ experience in mining
  • Must have two to three years’ experience operating a Hydraulic Shovel
  • Must have two to three years’ experience operating heavy equipment
  • Must have two to three years’ experience operating dozers
  • Experience loading 797’s
  • Must have two to three years’ experience operating two-way radios
  • Must complete Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) course prior to employment
  • Must have completed Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) course prior to employment
  • Must complete Basic Safety Orientation (BSO) course prior to employment
  • Completion of Mask Fit (Aecon will provide this).
  • Completion of Aecon online Orientation (Aecon will provide this)
  • Drivers Abstract must be provided prior to employment
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing a requirement (Aecon will provide this)
  • Pre-Employment Screening on Heavy Equipment Simulators (Aecon will provide this)
  • Must pass written heavy equipment competency evaluation
  • Must travel to job site on bus (Transportation provided)
  • Must be comfortable working in congested areas with other heavy equipment
  • Must be able to distinguish different loading materials during day and night
  • Must be able to direct flow of work in the excavation Pit
  • Must be able to communicate effectively over the two-way radio
  • Must speak, read and write in English
  • Must be able to fill out written daily paperwork
  • Must be a dedicated individual
  • Must comply with site specific rules and regulations
  • Must be safety oriented production operator

Additional Information:

  • Travel will be required between various sites north of Fort McMurray
  • Language: Must speak, read, and write in English
  • $37 to $41 per hour
  • Shift work – 11.5 hours per shift, schedule will be 14x7 (could be modified)
  • OT after 10 hours per day and 44 hours per week
  • All benefits and vacation time as dictated by 955 Operating Engineers Union regulations
  • Vacation requests to be submitted to supervisor
