Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Organizing and implementing fisheries and aquatic biology assessments and environmental monitoring programs, including study design, data analysis and reporting.
  • Participation in field programs to conduct and direct technical aspects of environmental monitoring and assessments of aquatic habitats.
  • Coordinating and supervising environmental technicians responsible for conducting baseline studies and ongoing monitoring programs.
  • Assisting with the design and implementation of monitoring programs that focus on fish populations and communities, fish habitat and fish health.
  • Compilation and analysis of environmental data and report writing.
  • Preparing reports on researched results and presenting recommendations.
  • Ensuring compliance of project activities with all relevant provincial and federal environmental regulations.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated technical competency and knowledge of freshwater fish and fish habitat.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork.
  • Ability/interest to work extensively in the field in a range of weather conditions, occasionally in remote locations.
  • Have demonstrated project management skills.
  • Research and analytical skills (data collection, compilation and analysis).
  • Problem solving skills (analyze a case or situation and recommending solution(s)).
  • Have excellent communication (verbal and written – technical or scientific writing).
  • B.Sc. or higher degree in biology or environmental science, with emphasis on fisheries and aquatic ecology.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in biology/fisheries science.
  • Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork.
  • Ability/interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations.
  • Being familiar with the Alberta and Federal regulatory environments for construction projects would be an asset.
  • Up-to-date First Aid certification and a current Driver’s License.
