Job Description


  1. Provide support for implementing and maintaining HSE programs/systems throughout CEDA (Examples: Hazard Identification, Behaviour Based Observations, Hazard Assessment documentation, Inspections, Near Miss Reporting, and Incident Investigation).
  2. Liaison with internal and external customers and third parties, to increase awareness of progress on HSE matters.
  3. Ensure Incident and Near Miss reports are managed as per CEDA’s HSE Management System.
  4. Responsible for the application of project and business HSE Documentation and applicable databases.
  5. Audit and monitoring compliance to CEDA’s and customer HSE Management Systems.
  6. Support safety meeting within your area of responsibility by providing relevant information for use during the meeting an actively participating throughout.
  7. Identify HSE coaching opportunities throughout the organization, offer yourself as a HSE mentor and actively participate in improving CEDA’s Culture.
  8. Complete site visit reviews with crews and site leaders.
  9. Complete observations on crews.
  10. Complete hazard ID’s ensuring controls are put in place. If this is not possible ensure proper steps have been taken.
  11. Report observed near misses ensuring they are managed.
  12. Manage monthly shop/lay down inspection processes.
  13. Ensure field documentation is filed in accordance with CEDA Standards.
  14. Ensure familiarity with CEDA HSE Resources, understanding of where CEDA’s HSE tools are located and that they are accessible to all CEDA employees.
  15. Ensure ERP’s are in place, understood and drills are conducted as per CEDA’s Practices.
  16. Ensure accurate initial incident notification within allotted timeframe.
  17. Follow CEDA’s Injury Management Process.
  18. Manage HSE initiatives for your allotted area; ensure safety meetings are documented and meeting minutes are posted and reviewed by employees unable to attend.
  19. Maintain CEDA’s HSE Communication board within your area of responsibility.


  • Minimum National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or equivalent.
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) certificate or diploma is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft basic suite of programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Operational field experience in upstream or downstream oil industry an asset.
  • 3 years of experience in Health and Safety.
  • Your working knowledge of related legislation and the ability to interpret the regulations and laws is an asset.
  • CSTS, OSSA, WHMIS, and Fall Protection as required to access work sites.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to adapt the style based on the audience.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to initiate action and drive team to success.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills allow you to clearly and concisely present information to clients, peers and field personnel.
  • Strong time management and organization skills allow you to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Your strong negotiation skills and ability to influence others allow you to gain commitment.
  • Required to frequently visit various industrial plant sites throughout Alberta.
  • Complete required internal and external training and competencies as outlined in the HSE training matrix.
