Open Position/Description
 
Communication Department
This is a permanent, full-time position working thirty-five (35) hours per week.
 
Reporting to the Communication General Manager, you will:
 

  • Lead and manage resources required to support the corporation.
  • Develop and foster a positive work environment.
  • Responsible for the outcomes of human resources management and the effective leadership of employees.
  • Initiate and manage project contracts (including suppliers, contractors, consultants) within financial and operating standards.
  • Deliver appropriate action on issues presented by internal and external clients in conjunction with the Communications General Manager.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a policy and framework for customer relationship management.
  • Represent the municipality on various boards, committees, community working groups and task forces.
  • Develop communication policies.
  • Act for the Communication General Manager when he/she is unavailable.
  • Research and recommend alternative options for enhancing communication with residents in our region.
  • Prepare responses, presentations and speaking notes for the Mayor and Council for provincial, national, and international public and private audiences.
  • Analyse current and future issues and provide strategic advice on issue management, stakeholder relations, brand management and advertising, media and public relations in consultation with the Communications Manager, stakeholders.
  • Provide advice, consultation and coaching to employees who will be speaking to the media on their communications issues. Serve as an educator and media relations’ adviser.
  • Serve as a contact with local, provincial and national media.
  • Prepare strategic position papers for the corporation on major corporate issues that require provincial or federal attention.
  • Develop major corporate communication plans and strategies including budget, tax rates and major infrastructure and service level changes. Execute these plans.
  • Perform the functions of an Emergency Public Information Officer during emergency response activations.
  • Work with administration from other government and non-government agencies to coordinate special events and official visits.
  • Develop and execute corporate communications plans and strategies, including but not limited to crisis communication plans, strategic and business plans, budgets, major corporate initiatives, politically sensitive issues and community consultations
  • Assist in developing 3-year business plans and operating budget for the Communications Department in accordance with Council’s approved strategic plan.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to compile content for corporate quarterly newsletters. Write, edit, and manage the production of the newsletters within confined timelines and budgets.
  • Develop and produce organizational development and leadership publications including strategic and business planning documents, presentations and reference materials.
  • You possess an undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, or a related field along with five years related experience, which includes two years in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Professional accreditation with either the International Association of Business Communicators or the Canadian Public Relations Society is desirable. You demonstrate highly developed leadership, interpersonal, organizational, project management, and analytical and problem solving skills. You have a very strong political awareness and superior verbal and written communication skills. A working knowledge of municipal government operations is a definite asset. A class five (5) driver’s license and personal vehicle for business use is required.
 
 Salary $74,395 - $94,766
