Job Description

Tridon Communications is currently hiring Service Technicians for a multi-year project in northeastern Alberta.



  • Testing by means of watt meter, multimeter, antenna diagnostics, DTF, basic service monitor use, modulation, channel bandwidths and signal levels
  • Install wireless communications equipment in stationary and mobile applications including light, medium & heavy duty vehicles and equipment
  • Basic diagnostics
  • Radio programming
  • Basic RF
  • Reading and understanding of engineering drawings/documents
  • Adherence to all Safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate professionalism & acts as ambassador of Tridon
  • Install, maintain, and repair SmartNet/SmartZone trunked radio systems, Conventional radio systems, MotoTRBO radio systems, TDM multiplexing equipment including T1 applications and wired/wireless LAN and WAN data networks
  • Program Conventional/MotoTRBO/Trunking mobile and portable radio equipment
  • PMP/PtP programming
  • Site surveys
  • Antenna diagnostics
  • Advanced radio programming
  • Network cable testing, duplex operation, spectrum analysis, use of return loss bridge
  • IP Basics
  • Install, maintain, and repair of broadband satellite systems
  • Install, maintain, and tune antenna multi-coupler systems, duplexers and transmit combiners
  • Accurately record time and materials on service orders for all assigned work using NetSuite operations and procedures pertaining to the Technical Services Department
  • Complete accurate Labour, Equipment and Material forms (LEM’s) and Job Hazard Assessments (JHA’s)
  • Complete required inspection sheets (Vehicle)
  • Assist, guide, and mentor employees and/or trainees
  • Participate in travel, overtime, and on-call duties as required
  • Install and maintain antenna systems on towers to 500’ while complying with safety requirements, tower rigging, and fall arrest procedures (when certified tower climber)
  • Basic Trunking
  • Other duties as assigned 
  • The Service Technician reports directly to the Service Manager. 
  • Install, remove, and repair electronic communications equipment
  • Install, remove and repair radio network equipment
  • Program equipment, diagnose problems, and write reports
  • Train customers and other personnel in the operation of communications equipment
  • Make routine decisions pertaining to the repair of communications equipment 



  • Candidates must be willing for work a rotational schedule of 7 days on followed by 7 days off, which may include some on call. Camp accommodations and flights will be provided from Calgary and Edmonton.
  • Successful candidates would be responsible to program, install, test, troubleshoot, and repair communications equipment at the repair centre and job site.
  • Service Technicians who are certified for tower work will also erect towers, and install antennas and cabling at heights over 3 metres.
  • High School Diploma
  • Diploma or Certificate in Electronics Engineering Technology/Technician or suitable combination of education and experience
  • Electronics Technician Association, International (ETA-I) Associate Level Certification
  • Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Certificate
  • CET(a)
  • Valid Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) certificate including generic WHMIS Training
  • Current Standard First Aid training including Level C CPR (Red Cross, St. Johns Ambulance or Heart and Stroke)
  • H2S Alive (OSSA accredited)
  • Aerial Work Platform (OSSA accredited)
  • Tower Climbing and Rescue certificate considered an asset
  • Confined Space Entry Training certificate (OSSA accredited)
  • Fall Protection (OSSA accredited)
  • ATV Training (OSSA Accredited)
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work requirements (OH&S)
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment and design/fabrication techniques
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator’s License or equivalent
  • Recent Driver’s Abstract will be required upon condition of employment
  • Strong leadership and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Excellent understanding of networking requirements and wiring standards applicable to the telecommunications industry
  • Ability to grasp new techniques, and deal with rapidly changing events
  • Ability to work safely in hazardous environments
  • The Service Technician must be able to spend the majority of the day sitting, walking, and/or standing.
  • They may be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time.
  • They also may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 30lbs for short distances.
