Purpose: Speech Language Pathologists will provide speech and language services and education to a variety of clientele within the region. Contacts will be with Health Centre Staff/Manager, Diagnostics & Therapeutics, as required and sharing information with Health Professionals, as required and referrals & case coordination. As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will be communicating with the families of clients on a daily basis as well as connecting with government agencies as required and to community agencies and/or schools on a monthly basis to provide consultation and exchange of information.
Responsibilities:
- Provides identification, assessment, diagnosis of, and treatment for speech/language /swallowing delays and disorders for a variety of clientele
- Consults/collaborates with parents and other professionals for the purpose of planning/managing programs for clients
- Participates in meetings, educational/prevention activities and committees as required
In addition to the specific responsibilities of the Speech Language Pathologist, the In-Charge role:
- Provides clinical supervision to other speech language pathologists and provides feedback on same to Manager
- Assists in development and administration of policies and procedures, annual budget, capital equipment requests, goals and objectives and quality improvement for the functional centre
- Provides leadership in the area of program design and accountability, ensuring services respond to client needs
Education & Experience:
- Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology
- 2 years recent experience dealing with speech and language delays and disorders
- Training/experience in assessment/management of swallowing disorders an asset
Skills:
- Demonstrated communication skills in English
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Demonstrated assessment and programming skills
- Valid driver's license and own vehicle required
- Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills
- Demonstrated motivation and enthusiasm for working with clients
- CPR
Professional Designation and/or Membership:
- Registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
- Registration/Certification with the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists preferred.
